Not only is water usage
more expensive during the warm weather, so much of the water is wasted due to
loss through evaporation. In addition,
manual watering is time consuming.
Much of the water
applied by homeowners to their gardens and landscape is not necessarily done
correctly. Watering is not a “one size
fits all” process. Lawns, the many
varieties of plants, flowers, trees, shrubs and vegetables all have different
watering requirements. Too much water,
as well as not enough, can damage and/or destroy plants.
Of course, there is
upfront expense associated with purchasing and installing drip irrigation
components and kits; but over time, money will be saved. Adding timers to watering systems will
produce even more savings.
Cha-ching! Many kits are easy
enough for the homeowner to install.
They do not need to be elaborate or expensive. Start out modestly and add on as time and
budget allow. Some more expensive kits
can even determine how long to water by measuring soil moisture.
